Augusta Corson Metcalfe, the “Sagebrush Artist”, recorded both the hardships and the beauty of the land through art. She has been memorialized in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. This piece is entitled " Stuck In The Creek" and can be seen at the Agusta Metcalfe Museum.
The museum is located on a 640 acre homestead in Roger Mills county. It was christened the Break O'Day Farm by Agusta and her son, Howard, in the 1920's. The museum consists of a modern art gallery, museum shop, and visitor's center. The art gallery features many of Metcalfe's oils, watercolors, and drawings, as well as information and artifacts which interpret the artist's life.

Roger Mills County has remarkable artists that you will not find anywhere else. Many whom have learned their trade from their ancestors. Indian beadwork; Indian blankets; western spurs; cowboy hats; leather chaps, western furniture from metal, cowhide, and other natural materials; and other artwork out of every medium possible. Many of these local artists do not advertise their work, but you may see them in the local businesses.
